[SSCs-Counselors] Greetings

Hi Cathy, scripts are just reviewing or suggesting how the person might speak to the organization they are contacting. The personal script would change from case to case. It's just helping the students find the right words.

We address the issues through referrals. Generally we have a discussion with the student about potential barriers, then refer them to org's such as:
    Mass Coalition for Refugee Advocacy.
    Cambodian Mutual Assisstance in Lowell.
    Spanish American Center in Fitchburg.
Career Center of Central Massachusetts -resumes, jobs and training.
Herbert Lipton Center or their insurance carrier 800 number.
Educational Opportunity Council for higher ed/job training referrals.

Usually we sit and discuss how they will contact the organization, go through scripts and give encouragement.

Just a note: Please sign your messages. The return address doesn't show whom it's from.

How do you address the issues of shelter, mental health needs, unemployment, and/or immigration problems (such as getting a drivers license) in your work with your students?

The most common issues I've seen are unemployment and immigration problems (i.e. people who arrive on a student visa and then want to change to a work visa)
