We address the issues through referrals. Generally we have a discussion
with the student about potential barriers, then refer them to org's such as:
Mass Coalition for Refugee Advocacy.
Cambodian Mutual Assisstance in Lowell.
Spanish American Center in Fitchburg.
Career Center of Central Massachusetts -resumes, jobs and training.
Herbert Lipton Center or their insurance carrier 800 number.
Educational Opportunity Council for higher ed/job training referrals.

Usually we sit and discuss how they will contact the organization, go
through scripts and give encouragement.

Just a note: Please sign your messages. The return address doesn't show
whom it's from.

How do you address the issues of shelter, mental health needs, unemployment,
and/or immigration problems (such as getting a drivers license) in your work
with your students?

The most common issues I've seen are unemployment and immigration problems
(i.e. people who arrive on a student visa and then want to change to a work
visa)
