As is appropriate for a major election year, a new issue of The Change Agent
has just come out.  It's called "Democracy in Action" and includes articles
by both practitioners and students that can be used in your classroom.
There is a reprint of an article by Margaret Anderson of The Literacy
Project ("Community:  A Path toward Participation").  There is also a piece
by staff and students at HALO (Glenn Yarnell, Kelly Martin and Margaret
Boyle) called, "Do You Vote?  What Are Your Responsibilities?"  The written
text is in the publication but you can access the actual audio clips of
students talking, as well.  The link is given in The Change Agent.

We have some copies for practitioners in Western Mass.  You can request up
to 5 copies.  If you are interested, please reply to me directly saying how
many copies you would like and giving your address, even if you think we
have it.  Or, if you are coming to a SABES event in the next few weeks, let
me know ahead of time and we'll have your copies ready for you when you
come!
