On March 25th at Holyoke Community College, in KC224, there will be two
separate workshops focused on digital photography and graphics.

Computer Graphics & Using a Digital Camera
9:30-12:30
HCC, KC224

Presenter: Cindy White -- Cindy has presented this at the last two
statewide summer tech days.  This has been a popular workshop the last
two years.

Details: This fun workshop will guide you through using graphics in your
documents. How you can massage, shrink, crop and make pictures fit into
your document. Take digital pictures with a digital camera, upload them
to the computer and print or publish on the web. Understand that
graphics and digital pictures are managed using the same methods.

Learning objectives

        * Use freely accessible software to do basic digital photo-editing;
        * Take digital pictures with a digital camera;
        * Upload pictures from camera and storage devices to computer; and
        * Identify methods for printing photographs or publishing to the
web.

Photoshop on the Cheap: Using opensource software to edit digital photos

Details:  If you’ve always wondered how to put the head of chicken on
the body of a cow, this is the workshop for you. This workshop is for
people that want to go beyond cropping, correcting for red eye and other
basic editing functions. Participants will learn how to install this
free software, import pictures into the program and use layers and other
editing features of GIMP to doctor and artfully enhance photos for print
or presentation. Examples for classroom use will be used. If a picture
is worth 1000 words, why use words?

Learning Objectives: 

        * Install GIMP software on Windows based PC;
        * Open and edit digital photos using GIMP tools;
        * Use layers to manage editing;
        * Save photos for printing or presentation; and
        * Identify ways to use digital photo-editing in an ABE/ESOL
classroom.
