[Sabeswest] UMITE -- Using Metaphor In Technology Education

Longtime ABE and ESOL instructor and trainer Matthew Puma will be 
conducting *UMITE -- Using Metaphor In Technology Education* on June 18 
at HCC.

Participants will use the metaphorical illustrations process as an 
educational method to enhance thinking skills while developing design 
skills using computer technology. Inspiration, Powerpoint, MS Word and 
other applications will be used while exploring visual representations 
of frequent concepts that arise in the ABE and ESOL classroom. This 
training is appropriate for ABE and ESOL teachers interested in using 
accessible technologies to implement multiple intelligence theory in the 
classroom.

Learning Objectives:

    * Use software tools for graphical thinking in the context of their
      teaching;
    * Integrate the software application Inspiration with MS Word and
      PowerPoint to create visually eye-open lessons;
    * Illustrate Multiple Intelligence theory using multiple software
      applications;
    * Locate and access Graphical Thinking Tools for further use.

 
Matthew Puma is currently the CWL Adult Diploma Program Director and has 
been integrating computer technology into adult basic education since 
1987. He has created the innovative Computers for the Office program 
conducted at the Worcester Housing Authority in Worcester, MA. Mr. Puma 
is an adjunct faculty member at Becker College. He graduated from New 
College of the University of South Florida with a B.A in Philosophy in 
1982 recently completed a Master's Degree in Critical and Creative 
Thinking at UMASS Boston. He has delivered seminars for professional 
educators statewide and is a master of integrating technology into the 
ABE and ESOL Classroom.
