*/_GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: _/*The Basic Education Instructor is 
responsible for instructing students in Basic Education and pre-General 
Education Development (GED).
The GED Instructor has the major responsibility to provide an optimum 
learning environment sufficient to satisfy the various aptitude and 
achievement levels of each student in order to prepare them to take the 
GED test.

*/_FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Instructs students in developing basic reading and comprehension 
skills, proper grammar and usage pattern, basic math skills, and set up 
and implement individualized remediation programs.

2. Schedules all new students entering the Institute according to their 
individual needs, and meets with Basic Education/GED Counselors weekly 
to review all student’s progress and performance.

3. May administer and interpret diagnostic tests designed to measure a 
student’s competency in a particular area.

4. Conducts classes and implements curriculum which prepares students 
for the GED test.

5. To prepare and implement weekly lesson plans for each student.

6. To develop a competency-based curriculum in order to evaluate the 
student needs and progress during his/her period of training.

7. To present the student with an effective knowledge of the mechanics 
of the English language. with an eye towards using it correctly in both 
oral and written communication.

8. To acquaint the student with various selected materials from social 
studies, science, geography, literature and mathematics.

9. Completes monthly student evaluations to insure that adequate 
progress reports and program requests are submitted to Counselor.

10. Communicates regularly among Basic Education staff by meeting to 
discuss curriculum development, classroom materials, and classroom policies.

11. Meets frequently with the Supervisor to inform him/her of all 
happenings in the Basic Education component and provide an opportunity 
for the coordinator to receive constructive suggestions when necessary.

12. Performs all other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned 
or delegated from time to time by the Program Coordinator or Director.

• An earned bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
· Earned Secondary Certificate in either English, Mathematics or Reading 
by the Massachusetts Department of Education or approval by the 
Massachusetts DOE ACLS Division
or
· Three years teaching in the field of Education or Training and a 
familiarity with the operation and philosophy of a training facility.
· Must be flexible in terms of adjusting one's schedule to the needs of 
the student and the Institute.
