SITE DIRECTOR - North Quabbin Adult Learning Center
 

The Literacy Project (TLP) is seeking an administrator/educator for the North Quabbin Adult Learning Center/Orange.  The position is 27 hours per week with an annual salary of $24,651 plus pro-rated benefits.  There is the possibility of an increase in hours/benefits up to full time (36 hours per week) in July.  

 

The position requires skills in managing the operations, programs and budgets of the site, supervising an experienced teaching staff, liaison with the local stakeholders, ensuring the visibility of the site and TLP in the local community, participating in site-based and agency-wide fund raising activities and some teaching of classes to adult learners ages 16 and older.  The start date is as soon as possible.

 

The site director is responsible for the overall operation of the learning center, and for creating a learning environment that fosters student involvement.  Specific responsibilities include:

  a.. Administration of DOE requirements and SMARTT reporting mandates
  b.. Site budgeting 
  c.. Supervising site staff, interns and volunteers 
  d.. Teaching reading, writing, math and computer skills at the ABE beginning, intermediate and GED levels, 6 - 9 hours per week
  e.. Outreach and recruitment
  f.. Promoting the site and TLP in the local community
  g.. Participation in TLP staff meetings and staff development opportunities
  h.. Leading site-based fund raising activities and participating in agency-wide fundraising initiatives
 

Qualifications include: ability to represent the agency in the public eye; program/grants management and administration; supervising staff; experience teaching ABE utilizing a student-centered and whole language approach; community organizing and working with collaborations; budget development and management; basic computer literacy; working with diverse populations; curriculum development; and experience working with youth and/or with young mothers a plus.

 

The Literacy Project (TLP) is a non-profit, community-based organization offering adult basic education and GED preparation services at our classroom sites in Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton, Orange and Ware, and through our Distance Learning Program.   Additionally, we provide adult education services to Even Start Family Literacy programs in Greenfield, Northampton and Orange.  The agency incorporates community development, civic participation, health, computer technology, and arts/culture in its teaching.  Additionally, we provide transitions services to support students in entering college or the workplace when they leave our programs.  TLP's philosophy is based in an empowerment model that is learner-centered and participatory.
