Greetings,
 
One-Book Holyoke, a two-month long city-wide celebration of the power of the written word, continues this month with several events examining the haunting Holocaust memoir Night by Elie Wiesel. While reaching out to the city as a whole, One-Book Holyoke also targets adult new readers including immigrants and adults who are returning to school for basic literacy skills. 

Please join us at the following events coming up in the next two weeks (and be sure to tell your friends, colleagues and family):
 
·                                Tuesday, March 20, 7 p.m. -- Paper Clips, at Holyoke Community College, Kittredge Room 301: One –Book Holyoke and the Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival are teaming up to host a viewing of Paper Clips, a documentary about the children of Whitwell, Tennessee Middle School who, as part of their study of the Holocaust, tried to collect 6 million paper clips representing the 6 million Jews killed by the Nazis
 
·                                 Wednesday, March 21, 7 p.m. — NIGHT: A Literary Perspective, with Rabbi Robert Sternberg at the  Holyoke Public Library: The Friends of the Holyoke Public Library present: Rabbi Robert Sternberg, Director of the Hatikvah Holocaust Education Center in Springfield, who will discuss Night from a literary and historical perspective. 
 
·                                 Thursday morning, March 29, 10:30 a.m., 225 High Street (New England Farm Workers Building at the corner of Dwight) — Night and the Questions of Evil, Suffering and Altruism: Presentation and discussion with Ervin Staub, Professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Founding Director of the Ph.D. Concentration in the Psychology of Peace and the Prevention of Violence. [NOTE: THIS FORUM IS SPECIFICALLY TIMED TO WELCOME STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FROM THE ABE/ESOL COMMUNITY!]
 
 
 
One-Book Holyoke is a grassroots program. With The Care Center as the lead agency, the project also has as its collaborators: The Holyoke Public Schools, Juntos Adult Basic Education Collaborative/HPS and Pathways to Family Success/HPS, Career Point/HCC Adult Learning Center, Holyoke Community College including SABES West and the Holyoke Community College Library, Nueva Esperanza, Holyoke Public Library and the Friends of the Holyoke Public Library, Nueva Esperanza and Enchanted Circle Theater.

Herbert L. Roth will speak about his experience as a Jewish teenager in Nazi Germany.
 
·                                Enchanted Circle Theater, Tuesday April 17, 7 p.m., Open Square, 1 Open Square Way
Enchanted Circle Theater presents a dramatic reading and discussion about Night featuring award-winning actors.
