INSTRUCTOR
Pioneer Valley Adult Learning Center/Northampton

a program of The Literacy Project

 

The Literacy Project is seeking an Instructor for the Pioneer Valley Adult Learning Center/ Northampton, a program of The Literacy Project.  The position is part-time (30 hours per week) and temporary (through June, 2007) with the possible extension of the position, pending continued funding. The weekly salary is $526.80. The start date is as soon as possible.

 

The Instructor is responsible for teaching two adult basic education classes to learners ages 16 and older:  one GED preparation level class that meets four afternoons a week and one Pre-GED level class that meets two evenings a week.  The Instructor also performs assessments and  provides ongoing counseling and evaluation with learners.   Other responsibilities may include conducting intakes and participating in outreach efforts for the site.  In addition, the Instructor participates in The Literacy Project staff meetings and staff development opportunities.

 

Qualifications include education and/or experience in adult basic education utilizing a whole language, student-centered approach; curriculum development; work with teens and diverse populations; experience with community organizing; and an interest in family literacy.

 

The Literacy Project (TLP) is a non-profit, community-based organization offering adult basic education and GED preparation services at our classroom sites in Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton, Orange and Ware, and through our Distance Learning Program.   Additionally, we provide adult education services to Even Start Family Literacy programs in Greenfield, Northampton and Orange.  The agency incorporates community development, civic participation, health, computer technology, and arts/culture in its teaching.  TLP's philosophy is based in an empowerment model that is learner-centered and participatory.
