Holyoke Adult Education Program
College Transition Instructor
The Community Education Project seeks a highly motivated and
experienced instructor to teach a college preparation class three
mornings a week. The ABE to College Transition Project, funded
by the Nellie Mae Foundation, and offered in partnership with Holyoke
Community College, is intended to create opportunities for adult
literacy program graduates to prepare for, enter, and succeed in
post-secondary education.
The instructor will work closely with the Agency Director, with the
Holyoke Community College Mentor Coordinator who serves as
Class Counselor, and with the HCC students who work as Tutor
Mentors. In addition to classroom instruction, responsibilities will
include assisting with selected recruitment presentations; ongoing
revision, assessment, and scoring of program placement/assessment
tool; curriculum design and implementation; student support, in
collaboration with the Class Counselor; record keeping; attending
staff meetings; and other responsibilities as needed.
AVAILABLE: Starting date January 23, 2007
SALARY: $17.48 per hour /18hrs per week

learners' as individuals and as community members

learning, and management methods
ADDENDUM FROM JOB DESCRIPTION
1 yr+ In ABE as GED/College Prep teacher
Commitment to low income 1st generation students from various cultures
Demonstrated competenty in teaching Basic Math, Algebra, Geomentry,
College Writing, Study Skills, Reading Comp, Problems Solving, Critical
Thinking. Good computer/tech skills. Excellent oral/written
communication skills. Excellent prior teaching references.
ABE-College transition employs a self directed/motivated, culturally
sensitive student centered instruction.
Curriculum development
College Prep classes w/emphasis on College level math/english
comp/reading comp/problem solving and Critical Thinking
Administering student assessments for intake, placement, and
documentation of learning gains
Weekly tracking of student progress
Maintaining of accurate student records, including attendance
Selecting and developing student centered materials
Working w/CEP Director
Working with HCC Coordinator/Counselor
Participate in professional development activities
M W & F 9 -1 (this semester)
12 hrs of instruction / 6 prep hrs
