Holyoke Adult Education Program Seeks College Transition Instructor
The Community Education Project seeks a highly motivated and experienced instructor to teach a college preparation class three mornings a week. The ABE to College Transition Project, funded by the Nellie Mae Foundation, and offered in partnership with Holyoke Community College, is intended to create opportunities for adult literacy program graduates to prepare for, enter, and succeed in post-secondary education
The instructor will work closely with the Agency Director, with the Holyoke Community College Mentor Coordinator who serves as Class Counselor, and with the HCC students who work as Tutor Mentors. In addition to classroom instruction, responsibilities will include assisting with selected recruitment presentations; ongoing revision, assessment, and scoring of program placement/assessment tool; curriculum design and implementation; student support, in collaboration with the Class Counselor; record keeping; attending staff meetings; and other responsibilities as needed.
AVAILABLE: Starting date January 23, 2007
SALARY: $17.48 per hour /18hrs per week
Required qualifications:
experience teaching adult learners
demonstrated ability to develop and implement curricula
· demonstrated commitment to the development of adult learners as individuals and as community members
· openness to participatory and learner-centered teaching, learning, and management methods
B.A. degree
well-organized and able to complete all relevant documentation required by funding agencies
Preferred qualifications:
· experience working in a low-income Latino community
experience teaching adult learners at the GED or college transition level
Spanish-English bilingual
understanding of college application, assessment, and enrollment procedures
· knowledge of adult basic education system in Holyoke or in the state
The Community Education Project (CEP) is a non-profit educational organization based in the Latino, primarily Puerto Rican, community of Holyoke, Massachusetts. CEP was founded in 1991 with the aim of addressing the widespread need for English language and basic literacy skills among Latino/a adults in Holyoke. CEP is committed to an educational process in which Latino community members address the socio-economic and political realities of Latinos in Holyoke and in the nation as a whole.
