Adult Learning Theories - Online course
Presenter: Lauren Capotosto
Bio: Lauren Capotosto is a literacy specialist and literacy coordinator at Bunker Hill Community College. She also teaches a GED class at ROCA, Inc. in Chelsea.

Course begins with a face to face meeting on 3/10/2007, 9:30-3:00, @ QCC in room 003S
This course on Adult Learning Theory is designed to give practitioners some theoretical frameworks for teaching and learning in the adult basic education classroom. Participants will examine several adult learning theories together and explore how they can help them improve their current classroom practice. Additionally, participants will examine the relationship of adult learning theories to addressing learning challenges and differences. This course is a 30-hour course with 15 hrs for a practicum, for a total of 45 hours. It will begin with a 5-hour face-to-face session for learners to get an overview of learning theories, become acquainted with one another, and learn how to use the online system. The course will then continue as a wholly online course, with weekly or bi-weekly readings and discussions aimed at useful classroom application . While this course will be facilitated in the participatory style of all SABES offerings, it has been designed to provide you with the same level of new knowledge and skills you might expect from a 45-hour graduate-level academic course. As such, you can expect to spend 1-2 hours in preparation time for every course hour, from a minimum of 45 to a maximum of 90 hours of the length of the course."
