Hi Everyone,
As the new tech person here, I'd like to invite you to come to the next
Tech Roundtable on March 29th 1-3:30 here at HCC. Room will be
announced once I get a feel for the numbers of participants. This Tech
Roundtable is for anyone wanting to share classroom or ABE-practice
related helpful computer applications, websites, or tips and tricks.
On the docket:
1. The Gimp. Bad name, I know. This is open source software freely
available for editing and manipulating digital photos. It competes with
the expensive Adobe Photoshop for usefulness. I'll do a presentation on
this and include resources. See www.Gimp.org. Bring copies of your
photos or a camera.
2. Additional free digital photography applications and resources
www.picasa.com, www.kodakgallery.com...
3. The Adult Literacy Wiki --
http://wiki.literacytent.org/index.php/Main_Page
I am also collecting emails addresses for a technology enthusiast email
list. This will be for posting cool resources, web-accessible lessons,
computer tips and tricks, etc. I don't anticipate heavy traffic --
maybe 1-3 postings per week. Let me know if this interests you and I'll
start one up.
Bonus tip for the day: In Excel, have you ever wanted to switch a
column into a row. For example, say you have column A, Cells 1-10 that
have headings that you would rather be at the tops of Columns 1-10 in
Row A. To transpose this column into a row, insert a blank row for Row
A (select Row A and Insert Row); select cells A1-A10, copy; select cell
A1, paste special -- in the pop up window select the _transpose_ option.
Tada! Took me forever to figure that one out!
Have a great holiday!
Charlie
