The SABES Literacy Library has several resources that would be helpful to a GED class or a health themed curriculum.

Videos -

Sight - from the Eyewitness series by DK . This 35 minute film is an exploration of the world through different eyes, revealing there is more to sight than that which means the human eye. Discover how the sun and light are ancient symbols of worship, witness the power of the "evil eye" and experience a spectacular display of optical illusions. Emmy Award and NEA Award winner.

Mystery of the Senses- Vision (Nova) - Vision explores our most magical sense and the elusive truths that both art and science reveal about sight. It is a vivid blend of science and imagery, literature and folklore, history and personal adventure.

The library also has an eye model puzzle that also includes general background information on the eye, common vision problems and a variety of suggested activities.

The SABES Literacy Library is a statewide staff development resource for Massachusetts Adult Basic Education and ESOL practitioners and programs.

The library is located at the Adult Literacy Resource Institute/Greater Boston SABES. Resources include books, videos, DVDs, research, access to online databases, software, curriculum and more.

Practitioners can visit or materials can be requested through email or the phone and will be mailed. Email or call to discuss your general resource needs or assistance in locating a specific title.

Library materials will often be brought to statewide conferences, workshops or institutes and may be borrowed from these events.

Materials are loaned for four weeks. Please remember that our resources need to be available for other literacy practitioners and return materials when you are finished with them. Materials may be mailed back or brought to the local library for return through the state interlibrary loan system.
