Geometry, Geography and Geology

Friday, May 18, 2007
12:30 - 4 p.m., Holyoke Community College, Room G221

This workshop will explore the ways that geometry can be used to describe the real world. We will use the earth as a circular model for circumference, diameter, degrees and coordinates, and how to get from one location to another. We'll look at the worldwide resources involved in assembling something as simple as a light bulb. Finally, we'll go online to look at real-time data collected on the dynamic processes such as earthquakes that affect the planet.

This workshop is intended for those who teach GED-level students but the materials can also be made applicable for pre-GED students.

Presenter: Michele Bahr is an experience math and science teacher at ACCESS on the Cape. She is currently a SABES Math Practitioner Leader for the Southeast region. Her science background includes an M.S. in Oceanography from the University of Hawaii and microbial ecology research at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA.

To register: Contact Adrienne at amorris at hcc.mass.edu or 413-552-2586. You can also register online at calendar.sabes.org.

Attached is the flyer, with more information.
