SABES is excited to announce "Teacher to Teacher: Exploring Math." This professional development opportunity follows a study group model and allows participating teachers a chance to reflect on their math teaching, learn new techniques and share and learn from their peers. "Teacher to Teacher" is happening in all SABES regions; in the West it is based on the Annenberg Math Model, which is a computer-based study model. There is a total of 16 contact hours over 5 months. The deadline for applying is October 13 and the first group meeting is November 17.
A flyer with more information, as well as an application was mailed out last week to all program directors. If you have further questions, please contact me directly. (Or, if you would like a copy of the flyer and application, I will mail you one. I cannot email them to you due to a problem with my computer that resulted in several documents being lost.) Preference will be given to participants who register with another person from their program. However, do not let this keep you from applying as it is likely that there will be room for others who apply alone. Also, preference will be given to those from DOE-funded programs but, again, it is possible that there will be room for those from non DOE-funded programs.
Research has shown that in the pst two years, 51% of the students that almost passed the GED failed because of Math! Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to upgrade your own math skills and your math teaching skills.
