POSITION AVAILABLE FOR

 

GED INSTRUCTOR/TRANSITIONS COUNSELOR

 

The Literacy Project is seeking a GED instructor/transitions counselor for the Pioneer Valley Adult Learning Center/Northampton.  The position is part-time (20 hours per week) with the possibility of additional hours, pending funding.  The annual salary is $17,560, plus pro-rated benefits.  The start date is targeted for mid-January, 2007.

 

The position responsibilities include teaching morning GED classes and coordinating family support services, including early childhood education and transitions to work and/or higher education.  The instructor/transitions counselor participates in agency staff meetings and staff development opportunities.

 

Qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and experience teaching GED level curriculum utilizing a student-centered and preferably, whole language approach; excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to work collaboratively; experience implementing programs that support learners in their career and education goals (preferred); experience with diverse groups of people; and basic computer literacy. A valid Massachusetts driver's license and travel in the employee's car (with reimbursed mileage) is required.

 

The Literacy Project (TLP) is a non-profit, community-based organization offering adult basic education and GED preparation services at our classroom sites in Amherst, Greenfield, Northampton, Orange and Ware, and through our Distance Learning Program.  Additionally, we provide adult education services to Even Start Family Literacy programs in Greenfield, Northampton and Orange.  The agency incorporates community development, civic participation, health, computer technology, and arts/culture in its teaching.  TLP's philosophy is based in an empowerment model that is learner-centered and participatory.
