Introduction to Counseling 

In Adult Basic Education

This 3-hour workshop is designed for ABE program counselors and teachers with counseling responsibilities. It is an introduction to the basic elements and processes of working with and assisting adult learners in meeting their goals. 

As a result of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  a.. Describe a range of ABE student needs
  b.. Identify qualities of effective educational counselors and counseling practices
  c.. Recognize how counseling connects to other program issues
  d.. Explain legal obligations for learning accommodations
  e.. Research, build and maintain a referral network and resource directory
