How People Learn Study Group

Over the past few years, there has been growing attention to the science of
cognition and learning. "How People Learn," a publication of the National
Research Council, offers a very readable discussion of the internal and
external factors that promote deep learning and its transfer to new and
increasingly complex situations. Drawing from a wide range of examples about
learning everything from history, to chess, to makinig sushi, the authors
describe how learners build expertise and how educators can support that
development. This research is very helpful in understanding and helping ABE
students learn! In this one-session "study circle," we will discuss selected
chapters and their relevance to our own work and learning.

Pre-reading is required. You will be sent the document or the web links to
the document upon registration, along with information on which chapters to
read.
