Title:                           Instructor ABE/ESOL – Long-Term Substitute, Fall 2006
 
Minimum
Qualifications:            Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate
                                    Experience working with adult learners
Ability to adapt teaching styles & materials to meet students’needs
                                    Excellent oral and written communication skills
 
 
Reports to:                 Adult Basic Education Director
 
General Statement of Duties
 
The ABE/ESOL instructor provides group instruction to adult learners. The instructor is required to align the curriculum to the ABE Frameworks. The instructor must maintain student assessment information and track student progress throughout the year. The instructor must meet with students to update goals throughout the year. The instructor also needs to maintain other records such as attendance so the program can provide needed statistics to the Massachusetts Department of Education, Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS). 
 
Examples of Responsibilities
 
§         Administer student assessments – initially and ongoing
§         Maintain appropriate student records
§         Select and develop appropriate materials for class use
§         Align curriculum with ABE Frameworks
§         Provide input or participate in program development activities
§         Attend monthly Planning and Evaluation Team (PET) meetings at the workplace
§         Attend at least 12 hours of professional development activities per year, or 2.5% of paid hours, whichever is greater
§         Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Director
