The information below was posted last week. Since then, we've received
several calls from Program staff who've expressed interest in bringing
some of their current and potential student leaders with them to this
training.
We think this is a wonderful idea! It will enrich the conversation
having students directly engage with, and add to, the ideas about
student involvement in community planning. We will shift the training
design to include interactive activities among students and program
staff to learn from one another.
We encourage you to bring a couple of students who are interested in
participating in community planning activities with you on April 10th.
Please contact Debbie Gray (contacts are below) to register everyone.
Subject: Involving Students in Community Planning
On Thursday, April 10 from 10 AM to 3 PM at NECC, Lawrence (Rm. 144),
there
will be a training on:
INVOLVING STUDENTS IN COMMUNITY PLANNING with Michele Sacerdote (former
student leadership coordinator) and Ernest Best (Director of MassAAL,
the
state student leadership organization).
The training will overview the ways in which students can and have been
effectively involved in partnership meetings, assisting with community
surveys, and/or informing the community planning effort through student
council work. The training will provide concrete tools and strategies
for involving students.
Student leadership is blossoming across the state. There are more
student councils, students have played a crucial role in advocacy,
students lead health teams, and students lead mini-grant projects in a
variety of areas. Now is the time for more explicit involvement of
students in community planning where students can bring their voice and
the voice of potential students to the planning. Please join us at this
important training where you will get important ideas and resources.
All are welcome -- directors and community planning coordinators are
especially encouraged to attend.
