Attention Community Planners:
Are you having trouble finding good business partners for your Community Assessment? Are they driving you crazy because they just don't understand your needs in this process?
We're focusing the online discussion for the next two weeks on ...
EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY
BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK
We're also compiling a TIPS SHEET to give you some practical resources. Here's Tip #2 for finding good business participants that understand your needs and can help you get the word out about Adult Basic Education:
TIP #2 - Use local Associations or Business Groups for larger group representation and publicity
Use representatives from industry or business groups who see the "big picture" in your region to help strengthen your partnership and assessment. They can also serve as unofficial ambassadors for Adult Basic Education issues, since they tend to network fairly frequently in the community. These associations are often informal. Your local Chamber of Commerce can help you identify the key associations in your region, including:
a.. Industry Groups - In Berkshire County, we have the Berkshire Plastics Network, a consortium of plastics manufacturing firms and bTech, a consortium of high tech companies. You may also find associations for health care professionals, other types of manufacturers, engineering, real estate firms, and hospitality services.
b.. Human Resource Groups attract motivated HR professionals from a wide range of businesses who want to find new ways to help their company and network among their peers. Use their membership list or website to recruit partnership members and help you get the word out about your programs.
c.. Business & Professional Women's Association is a formal association of businesswomen who meet on a regular basis to network, learn more about the community, and exchange information.
d.. Regional Employment Board or Workforce Investment Board is responsible for evaluating and fostering workforce development programs and can really be a valuable resource. They can also recommend key business or business groups for your partnerships.
