I'm forwarding this response to a request for ideas
for survey questions for out-of-school youth...

I am working with folks in South Boston who last week
put together the following questions for their
out-of-school youth (ages 16 - 21) focus group.

1. What made it hard for you to attend school?
2. What would it take to bring you back to school?
3. Name 1 to 3 things you think would make a quality
adult education program.
4. What advice would you give to a friend or relative
who is thinking of leaving school?
5. What do you think you'll need to be where you think
you want to be in 5 years?

I'm also working with folks in the South End (of
Boston) who met with their stakeholders today to
(among other things) brainstorm questions for focus
groups, including one for providers. They came up
with the following.

1. Who are you serving?
    Constituents?
    Ages?
    Language(s)?
    Neighborhood(s) of origin?
    Children (parents?)
living situation (development -- public housing or
private)?
2. Do you have clients presently attending adult
education programs?
3. Who else could benefit from participating in adult
education programs?
4. What can ABE providers do to facilitate greater
participation in adult education programs?
5. What are things other community based human
service providers can do to facilitate greater
participate in adult education programs?

Hope these are helpful.
