Participants were 285 students from 15 states
attending “national conferences during 2002.” They
were 52% in basic reading courses, and 48% in ESOL
courses. They were all ages.

The question was “Would you like to learn about
software programs that help you read printed material
when you type words in a sentence.” 209 said yes
(73.4%) and 76 said no.

How can we assist here? One answer is to provide a
converter such that the sentences can be converted to
a pronunciation guide to help readers. Two such
pronunciation guide converters for English exist, one
from the International Phonetic Association (IPA)
http://www.foreignword.com/dictionary/IPA/transipa.htm
and one from truespel
http://www.foreignword.com/dictionary/truespel/transpel.htm.
 Both are free.

Truespel is the world’s first pronunciation guide
spelling that uses regular keyboard letters. It is
designed to be English friendly. It has a 60k word
dictionary (word and word forms). It is free for
developers.
