Just a note to follow up on the recent comments about collaboration in the
literacy field. It occurred to me that many of you may not know of some of
the good coalition work that is being accomplished and so I wanted to offer a
brief salute to some outstanding communities that are working together to
make a difference.

Kudos go to:
The Literacy Network of Los Angeles (for their developing work with the city
and the workforce development project)
The Literacy Alliance of New Orleans (for the work of communitywide coalition
development and the data sharing and accountability project)
The Literacy Coalition of Jefferson County (for providing support in the
efforts to improve adult education funding)
The Greater Hartford Literacy Council (for the work on developing a
communitywide needs assessment)
The Mobile Literacy Coalition (for demonstrating the power of volunteerism)
The San Antonio Commission on Literacy (for the good work in WIB
collaboration)
The Palm Beach County Literacy Coaltion (for the outstanding work of Literacy
AmeriCorps members)
Dallas Reads (for the work in progress to strenghten the role of CBO literacy
providers)

These great organizations, and many others, only exist to support literacy
programs and learners within their communities. They represent the complete
range of programs in a community and cut across all the funding,
philosophical, political and educational boundaries. They are all members of
the National Alliance of Urban Literacy Coalitions. If you have any
questions I'd be happy to connect you to the appropriate contacts.

Margaret
