LVA, Inc. and LLA hired a consulting firm to invent a name for the new, merged volunteer-based organization -- ProLiteracy was the result. I don't know what the "pro" is supposed to stand for, but since the organization uses volunteers, "pro" can't mean "professional"... perhaps "pro" is supposed to suggest "promote"?

Does the "Pro" in ProLiteracy stand for: 'professional', or for 'in favour of', or some other reason?

Actually, Laubach and LVA (Literacy Volunteers of America) are merging. By this fall, they should reappear as "ProLiteracy America" (sigh).
