Andre,

I think we must be able to educate politicians, or funders, whoever. I think
it's part of our responsibility, and if we are lucky, it becomes part of a
continuing relationship. And doctors do educate patients, though the analogy
is not exact. I have had 4 foot operations over the last 2 years, and I have
been educated! Lots of models of feet and bones have gone into the
education! And I had to interview doctors (7) before I found one who heard
what I was saying. I educate him, he educates me, it's a relationship.

Did I EVER suggest context is important? No.

Have I ever suggested that real goals for real people are unimportant?
Haven't even gotten there yet!

I know very well about violence, women and learning, and that is context plus
learning disability, and of course it influences the task of learning how to
read and write better.

Let me pose a problem. Suppose I feel that integrating writing into a
reading curriculum will improve reading fluency, as well as public speaking.
Is there evidence about that? Or should I as an administrator or advocate
just go by what I feel is reasonable? Any studies out there, other than case
studies?

And you sound like a great teacher! Anybody documented you?

Andrea
