Dear Ralf, I am not embarrassed by the comments concerning  the commentary 
about side-trips being offered at the conference in Charleston. I appreciate 
the comments and as a member of the COABE BOARD (as are other NLA ers) I will 
make sure the whole board is aware of them.
And yes, we are sensitive to all the issues relating to Adult Basic 
Education. In fact you will notice (when you receive you conference brochure) 
that many of those sensitive issues are covered in a variety of workshop.. 
What you may not be aware of is that this part of conference planning is left 
to the local committee. They try very hard to provide those who visit their 
venue as many activitiies as they can for time outside of the conference.  
But all of these activities are voluntary. 
I'm sure you comments will be taken to heart  for future planning. But i can 
assure you and others we are not insensitive to issues of race, economic 
levels or gender issues. Thanks for your input. Maybe no one will go on the 
tour !!
