Dear Tom,

Thanks for your post.  I have kind of a negative support for your opinion--as 
long as there is such a giant gap between haves and have nots in this country 
not every child will learn to read in school.  We know how to teach children 
how to read and write. It isn't done through lack of resources--money to pay 
for well-trained teachers, and the money and willingness to add school staff 
trained to work with whole families.  Ultimately this is a political problem.
