This is after reading Nancy Hansen's message.

I think it is very important to have a reporter assigned to adult literacy.  
A couple of years ago I decided to educate myself about many of the issues 
reported on in the paper.  It took awhile, but because I  kept at it I did 
learn.  The newspapers I read are very predictable about the types of stories 
they report on, which is the reason I read several.  Never anything on adult 
literacy, clearly you are right that it was a topic that was not part of 
anyone's assignment in the papers I read.
