Kathleeen,

You are describing what I call "the right hand/left hand problem," which
comes from the NT, I believe, about prayer--do not let your right hand know
what your left hand is doing. I have never known how to think about the
tobacco money--extortion or tithing? And when it's used for health causes,
it just puts health in the debt of tobacco...oh well, just a small rant.

If the Toyota folks have their antennas tuned into Family Literacy--GREAT!
If they'll give a nickel they'll give a dime. Then you go to other
corporations and leverage one donation into many, and people become happy to
get on the bandwagon....and get the publicity, which is what I guess the
Toyota ads are all about. Car, anyone? They also feel good about
themselves, which is fine, and then they start to think about how to
advertise, and they toss more ideas into the pot. This really works. I can
see a public/private partnership on this. How about it, David?

Andrea

PS This media/funding initiative that David tossed us as a challenge has
many branches. I think we have multiple advertising targets, we have
identified 2--funders and end users.
