[NLA] to make NIFL board nominations

Just a reminder that NIFL Board meetings are open to public, and we often
have -- and welcome -- guests to these meetings. For instance, the state
directors usually send someone, and the Board asks for and listens to her
opinion on various matters. Since it may be some time before our new Board
is in place, this is an option that VALUE or any other group could consider
if they want to have more input in the meantime. And NIFL staff is always
just a phone call away!

Friends,
This may be old news by now, but I've been advised by one
knowledgable source in Washington that the best way to make NIFL
board nominations is to send letters of nomination to The Honorable
Rod Paige, Secretary of Education, U.S. Department of Education.
Letters can also go to HHS and Labor Secretaries Chao and Thompson,
though Paige is probably the pivotal person. Since the President's
nominations will be made next month, I'd urge that your nominations
go out as quickly as possible. If I get any additional advice on this
over the next week or so I will post it here. GS
