Colleagues,

I am finding Vol II, Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL)(Jossey-Bass, Inc,
2001) to be very useful in my work, particularly the chapters on "Critical
Pedagogy" and "Research in Writing."

Degener explains Freire et al in a broad and thoughtful fashion: no
polemics, practical suggestions for using the ideas of critical pedagogy in
creating programs.

Gillespie writes about adult literacy writing within the same framework.

Both take a "social justice" perspective. For anyone troubled by the
sociology implicit in and revealed by the NALS these chapters would be useful.

Andrea
