Dear List Subscribers,
Adult educators and others from New Jersey and neighboring states are
invited to attend this year's annual conference of the New Jersey
Association for Lifelong Learning. Here are details about the
conference on April 23rd and a pre-conference symposium on April 22nd.
WHAT: "Adult Education: A Tool for Success": The 1999 annual conference
of the NJ Assn. for Lifelong Learning (with support from the NJ State
Employment and Training Commission and the John J. Heldrich Center for
Workforce Development at Rutgers University) There will be public policy
presentations and discussion, including a session by NLA Moderator, David
Rosen, on how Massachusetts has increased its state line item by 700% in
five years.
WHEN: April 3, 1999 (Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The conference
ends at 4:45 pm)
WHERE: The National Conference Center at the Ramada Inn in Hightstown,
NJ (near Exit 8 of the NJ Turnpike)
SUMMARY: This year's conference will focus on the role of adult
education in workforce development. What are the implications of recent
federal and state policy which push adult educators to respond to
learners' work-related needs>
Sessions will show adult education's links to the Workforce
Investment Act, Workforce Investment Boards, One-Stop Career Centers,
Welfare Reform, Workplace Basic Skills, State Funding Sources, Family
Literacy, Correctional Education, Job Development, Learning
Disabilities, Employer and Union Perspectives, Cultural Diversity, and
Outcome measures and Assessment Tools.
FEES: Registration fees are $69 for NJALL members, $99 for non-members.
(There is an additional $10 late fee for fees postmarked after April
9th.) Fees include breakfast, lunch, and all activities.

APRIL 22nd PRE-CONFERENCE SYMPOSIUM: In addition to the above one-day
conference, NJALL is hosting a one-day pre-conference symposium on April
22nd. Participants will (a) learn about new federal and state policies
for adult education and workforce development and (b) discuss what
actions are needed at the local and state levels to enable adult
educators to provide services which are effectively linked to workforce
and economic development. A few slots are still available for this
