Eileen, and others,

The information about ROI for  bachelor's, master's and Phd degrees is available, I don't have it though.  This is what I remember: in education the financial return on a master's degree is worth the time and expenditure of funds (lost opportunity costs);  at the PhD. level it is not (more lost opportunities than financial gains).

Therefore, if one is weighing whether or not to go to the Phd, and financial return on investment is important to you, then you might decide not to.  If there are returns on investment other than financial for you, then you might decide to go on.
