Thanks for the HUGE response to my query! Based on all your thoughtful responses I have decided to fight to keep the term ADULT in the name of the Center-I am too scared that without the name, the adult focus will eventually disappear. This continues to be an interesting struggle-a struggle which is representative of what is going on in the general adult literacy world. As many of you have mentioned in previous postings, we live in dangerous times. There is a strong push to nudge adult literacy out of focus, and as a field we need to fight to keep the focus. It amazes me that even a small research center in a university has gotten entangled in this fight.
Some of you have posted specific questions about the center. Answering those specific questions, seems beyond the purpose of the listserv-so I will address those questions in private emails to each individual person, instead of posting answers here.
