NLA Colleagues,

This is getting good. We are beginning to have an impact. We're over
80 now, with California, Louisiana, Missouri, Oregon, and Iowa weighing
in -- and more faxes and follow-up phone calls from other states.

Thanks to those who have taken the time to fax and mail these letters.
Glad to see five new states represented. But, as you'll notice from the
message Jon Randall posted yesterday, few of these people we have faxed
have actually signed the letter yet -- so now is the time to do follow
up phone calls to them. (There are still a few days left to send more
faxes, and for more states to weigh in. Keep e-mailing me when you fax
or telephone your Congresspeople (either to DJRosen at theworld.com or to
the NLA list.)

When you do a follow-up phone call, ask for the Congressperson's aide
who deals with education. Ask if s/he got your fax. Explain that the
letter needs to be signed by September 30th. Ask "Will the
Congressman/woman be signing the letter? Will you call me to let me
know?" Do not be shy about this. It's standard practice.

Need a Congressperson's phone number of fax number? You will probably
find it at

An NLA colleague reminded me to ask you to ask others to fax to their
Congresspeople, too. You can forward Jon's e-mail instructions to them
so they will know what to do.
