Your letter should be faxed to the office of your Congressperson. However it
can me "snail-mailed" to each of the Secretaries. The Secretaries might be
angered by receiving a high volume of essentially the same letter via fax.
They already know what it says. What we need them to appreciate is the
number of folks in the literacy field that have communicated with their
Congresspersons. For that snail-mail is best.

Re: contacting Senators ... Not yet. We're still trying to get a Republican
lead sponsor of the letter in the Senate. As soon as we have one, we'll ask
everyone to fax a letter to each of your Senators and copy the Secretaries
again.

We tried very hard to make this happen all at the same time. However,
getting a lead Republican sponsor in the Senate has turned out to be more
difficult and time consuming than with any of the others. We held up issuing
the alert for 10 days, but simply could not risk holding up the House letter
campaign any longer. So we made the decision to do the House letter
mobilization separately.

(The nice thing is that when we give the go-ahead for the Senate letter
campaign, you will be able to send the exact same letter to each of your
Senators that you sent to your Congressperson. They won't compare notes so
it doesn't matter that it's the same letter addressed to three different
legislators.)

Hope this answers your questions. Thanks to everyone who is helping to
secure the needed Republican cosponsor!

Again, contact me directly if you know someone who knows someone in the
office of a Senate Republican.

Best,
Jon
