[NLA] What would you recommend?

I've just read that the teaching of "phonics" was
banned in 1986. Is that right? Hope not. If so the
public should know that "We Were Wrong". - according
to the National Reading Panel. Their meta-study of 52
studies finds that phonics (phonemic awareness) helps.
