[NLA] Evaluation vs. research

Dear Cecil,

Through the knot hole and into another reality. I never thought I'd get back
to evaluation this way. I did the evaluation of a whole school for my
dissertation. I anchored it with an examination of purpose, how that purpose
was understood by faculty, students, board, former heads. I also considered
the culture of the school, its own and the slice of American culture in which
it was embedded. Lots of observation. My "expertise" was in Progressive
education, and this was a Progressive school. This underscores my feelings
about being knowledgeable in order to do a proper job of it.

Evaluation overlapped with research in that my point of entry into the site
(this was an ethnography) was through leadership succession which itself is
quite informative about the health of the organization, eg, how it does or
does not fulfill its purpose.

Thanks.

Andrea
