Thank you very much for your post.

I must correct some misinformation, though.  As far as we know, there is not 
an open/shut window for being able to read (or to learn a foreign language, 
either)  The key is motivation, which will overcome plasticity, as Reid Lyon 
points out.  I believe this comes from Catherine Snow, I may be wrong, but it 
is also supported by the work of Kurt Fischer.

I am not a fan of Truespel, I should tell you, and I have been interested in 
your posts on other list servs, and have thought about what you have said.  
First, the number of phonemes--40?  44?  45?  I have heard several numbers.  
Second, English is a language built outward from a root, and I think it 
possible that the use of Truespel would wipe out English morphology, which is 
an exremely helpful tool for both reading and comprehension.
