Yes, I sent suggestion to a couple of the other newsgroups, but I'll re-post
them here:
I read the list and would like to add some titles that I believe are "must
read" articles or books, which were not included:
Rethinking Literacy Education, Quigley (was mentioned but should be
re-mentioned)
Cultural Diversity and the School Experience, John Ogbu (article)
Transitional Bilingual Education and the Socialization of Immigrants, David
Spener (article) (anyone working with immigrants and minorities should read
the above to articles)
Empowering Minority Students, Jim Cummins (artricle)
Changing Work, Changing Workers, Glynda Hull, Ed (the entire anthology)
(anyone exploring workforce literacy programs needs to read this)
Crossing Cultural Borders Gaytan and Trueba (Book)
Teachers as Intellectuals, Giroux (Book)
Making Meaning Making Change, Auerbach (Book)
Literacy in Theory and Practice, Bian Street (Book) (classic)
Disconnecting Liteacy and Sexuality, Kathleen Rockhill (article) anyone
working with women shoudl read this
There are other books and articles that I can recommend, but these are some
that I would recommend more strongly.
