George, As usual, you offer a logical course of action regarding NIFL Board
nominees. But logic does not always guide those who legislate in Disneyland
on the Potomac. Remember, Committee Chairs have a great deal of power
regarding what comes before their committees. They also make deals (did I say
that!!). And they have their own agendas...could be there was a trade off
somewhere..not unheard of...to let nominees go for limited terms in exchange
for other replacements down the road. Staffers don't often give "reasons" for
what their boss is doing or voting for or against..I know this does not help
the frustrated field as we try to come to grips with a new adult education
poilcy.
I am somewhat ecouraged that adult education will retain its place. Carol
D"Amico spoke at the COABE opening session. She offered some hope to the
field that the administration would support adult education...She really
didn't elaborate. She had visited several adult education sites the day
before and said she was impressed with what she saw...Hope springs
eternal!...Jay cretella
