Dear Friends,

Today I heard a wonderful talk at a Learning and the Brain Conference by Dr.
Reid Lyon, who David reminds me is Chief of Child Development and Behavior
Branch of the NICH and Education Advisor to President Bush. "Wonderful"
because NICH funds a lot of research on reading and has for a long time, is
also working on at least two longitudinal studies. There are scientific as
all get out, generalizable as all get out, and potentially (I will use the
work) useful to inform adult literacy research and advocacy. One of the main
questions in the adult literacy field: do adults learn the same as or
differently from children? With this in mind, if anyone wants to contact me
off the list I will be glad to give info on where to get a tape of his talk
and a brief synopsis of his talk.

Andrea
