I'm wondering whether Wal Mart will be contributing funding to programs
to whom students are referred. Otherwise it seems to be more of an ad
campaign to make Wal Mart APPEAR to be supporting literacy while only
referring folks to the people who actually do the work. In other words,
it's PR for Wal Mart that doesn't ad to the base of services.
I would recommend that those who are contacted say that their programs
will participate only if WalMart supports those to whom it is referring
people (or to a major adult literacy initiative/service provider). This
reminds me of the famous old Coors campaign: Lots of PR about family
literacy (really about Coors) on the one hand while union busting on
the other. Elsa
