[NLA] A BIG THANKS

Last weekend some members of VALUE met in Minneapolis, MN along with
representatives from other literacy organizations. They were from the
new LLA/LVA Organization, The America Library Association, Florida
Education, World Education, Blast and EFF. The state of Minnesota made
this meeting possible for us and was our host. Minnesota ABE State
Director Barry Shaffer welcomed us to the meeting. Many people from
Minnesota worked to help make this meeting happen. VALUE would like to
thank everyone who helped. I hope other states will follow the state of
Minnesota’s example of helping adult learners to move forward in our
nation.

This was a planning meeting to develop leadership training for adult
learners and former adult learners to become trainers of leadership for
other adult learners. After taking this training they could be certified
as leadership trainer for VALUE.  We want to have trainers in all parts
of the country to work with states and literacy coalitions. We are
hoping to have this training available at the next VALUE Conference in
2003.  At this conference we also want to provide leadership training
for people from the literacy field. This training would bring
understanding of adults with literacy problems and how to develop adult
learners as leaders. This training would be different, but similar to
the adult learners training.

I would like people to consider this training in the future.
