Sandy, et al,

Not only have Cheryl's many contributions to ABE in Pennsylvania been
apparent to her colleagues nationally, but she brought that same energy and
vision to our attempts to advance our national agenda. Although I've been
pleased that we often agree, I've been just as appreciative of her positions
and her contributions on those occasions when we don't. She's smart,
thoughtful and a very able manager and leader. I want to add my voice to
those who have extended their congratulations and say that I am looking
forward to her assuming the DAEL director's position.

Way to go Cheryl!

Needless to say, those of us in Pennsylvania are absolutely delighted that
Cheryl will be the new DAEL Director. Under her leadership, adult and family
literacy education in Pennsylvania has made dramatic leaps and bounds
forward. Not only have state literacy dollars increased significantly, but
Cheryl has worked tirelessly to strengthen the infrastructure of local
programs, improve the quality of teaching and learning, increase overall
performance and accountability, and to forge new and healthier relationships
with our WIA partners, state legislators, K-12 educators, business and
industry, etc. This past February, Cheryl was honored by PAACE (PA
Association for Adult and Continuing Education) for her unparalleled
contribution to adult and family literacy education in Pennsylvania. It has
been an honor to work with her for the past nine years and all of us in
Pennsylvania look forward to the leadership she will bring to our field at
the national level (and maybe a little rest now that she has the rest of the
country to focus on :-).
