Does anyone know of a study that compares the educational gains/outcomes of
adult students in dedicated education programs to the educational
gains/outcomes of adult students in programs that combine education with
'work experience'?

I know that a recent study by the Center for Law and Social Policy reports
that 'employment outcomes' are better when students move sequentially from
one activity to another (e.g. education first, then job training), but I
don't know of any study that compares educational outcomes.
