Gina,
Sorry for the misconception, I am a literacy advocate, have been one for
over 16 years, since my first experience with volunteer tutoring.
I am supporting them. My statement is in support of them. My statement
does not, however, support the social strata that promotes illiteracy
and it's side products.
The group you refer to is quite small in relation to the main, and
indeed they have my empathy and support. These folks are also part of
the group who doesn't require the same degree of remediation prior to
achieving GED level. Normally they are only in a program for a short
time.
Please read it again, tongue in cheek. But not tongue in cheek, because
I hear community leaders say it all the time, so you could put quotes
around it if you wish to denote that I wasn't really the first to
generate the statement.

As a literacy advocate, I hope you are more careful with how you express
yourself. Many individuals who drop out of school do so for health or
family reasons. These individuals need our support not condemnation.
