[NLA] a proposal to "save" the NIFL

Folks,

This is a side note to Andy Hartman's suggestion and George Demetrion's 
response.  It doesn't matter to me that research on child learning goes back 
to wherever it came from, but the fact is, the information the adult literacy 
field has gotten from the child lit research is invaluable, and it is being 
used (document to come out this summer).  Why?  1)  Research of this sort 
isn't yet available about adults;  2)  Adults probably learn reading and 
writing much the same ways children do.  

This spring I went to a conference on  adult learning and one on child 
learning--there is cross over of concepts, evidence, materials.   Adult 
literacy researchers themselves are perfectly clear about their use of child 
lit research.
